2x08: 'Shibboleth'
So hey - there are actual other people here, besides me. Hi!

Since it's Thanksgiving this week, I give you...

CJ
Have either of you heard of... uh, I don’t know, something, the... Jamestown Mayflower
Daughters of the American Revolution Preservation Soceity?

TOBY
The Jamestown Mayflower Daughters?

CJ
I may have gotten the name wrong. They’re inviting the White House to participate in
some kind of... I don’t know, Thanksgiving Revolutionary War re-enactment.

TOBY
CJ, let’s not torture American History completely, to death!

CJ
Who the hell are...?

TOBY
Jamestown was the 16th century. The Mayflower landed at Plymouth in the 17th century.
The Fathers of the Daughters of the American Revolution fought in...?

CJ throws up her arms.

TOBY
The 18th century!

CJ
It’s a festival feast of some kind! Who cares?

.....

DONNA
This is Morton Horn. He’s from Jasper Farms, Virginia. [to Morton] Tell them what you’re
doing here, Morton.

MORTON HORN
I’m dropping off the turkeys.

DONNA
He’s dropping off the turkeys.

TOBY
What are, uh...?

DONNA
Nobody left me instructions. He had a pass from the Northwest Entrance.

MORTON
I’m dropping off the turkeys.

TOBY
Yeah.

MORTON
Where should I put ‘em?

After a moment, the guys seem to agree on their responses.

JOSH
CJ’s office.

SAM
CJ.

JOSH
I’d definitely put them in CJ’s office.

TOBY
Good idea.

JOSH
CJ Cregg’s office.

SAM
It’s right there.

TOBY
Well, CJ’s office is right there...

JOSH
CJ handles all the...

TOBY
Donna will show you.

JOSH
...birds.

TOBY
CJ.

JOSH
Yeah.

DONNA
Okay.

TOBY
And Morton, Ms. Cregg is gone for the night, uh, and her office is secure, so you should
feel free to let the turkeys out of the cage, and allow them to, you know, roam freely,
as they were meant to do.

JOSH
Absolutely.

MORTON
Okay.

TOBY
Okay.

.....

It was tempting to just quote the entire cold open. :) This is one of my top episodes of the whole series.

"We're writing a very important Thanksgiving proclamation. // And possibly a new action-adventure series." <333 SO MUCH LOVE.

One day I'm going to write (or force m'partner in crime black_eyedgirl to write with judicious application of chocolate and bribes) Toby and Sam actually doing that. Or else being pilgrim detectives, I haven't decided. *g*

Okay, now I need to watch either this or 'The Indians in the Lobby', because Bartlet phoning up the Butterball hotline is priceless. :DDD

I actually have an unfinished sketch somewhere of Sam, Toby, and CJ clad in pilgram-wear, being all detective-y. I should find that. Hrm.

I was totally going to post the Butterball Hotline scene tomorrow! Or possibly on Thanksgiving proper.

Oh god, now I've looked it up and can't stop laughing and I am at work.

"I'm Joe Betherson...ton. That's one 't', and with an 'h' in there."

"All right. Well, first of all, I think you made the second bacteria up, and second of all, how do I avoid it?"

Also, the way Toby calls for a zip code and they get it in the nick of time! And how he has to remind the President that he lives in Fargo.

(If you write Toby and Sam writing and/or being pilgrim detectives, I will love you and also I will die from the silly.)

Thanks for the quotes! :)

The thing with the turkeys was so hilarious! :D

Eric and Troy!

I love watching CJ talk to the turkeys.

Right! Thanks! Only started watching TWW this year and so far have only seen every ep up to the middle of season 4 once... *hides*)

So do I, too funny! :) I also love how Bartlet 'pardons' the Turkey... :D

Um. I started watching TWW on the night of the first presidential debate in September. I'm probably newer than you. :P I love it so, though. My friends had raved about it to me for years, and now I understand what they were on about.

I'm in the middle of season seven, so I will beware of spoilers for you!

Wow, you're quick!

I've been meaning to watch it for ages but I'm a little weird, see, I want to watch it in English, not really an option in Germany... But my friend gave me the first 4 seasons, so then I finally started to watch it... :)
Anyway, now I need the final 3 seasons, hence my being stuck somewhere in the middle of the fourth. ;)

Heh, yeah - I was bored at work that day and my e-mail and comment turnover was pretty impressive. =)

I think the first four seasons are really the best, when Sorkin was still there. There are great episodes here and there in the later seasons, but the first four are pretty much solid blocks of awesome.

I still have a few discs left of the final season and some of them are a chore to slog through.

I was so pi**ed when they killed off Mrs. Landingham that I stopped watching for two months or so... I still hate that they did that and I was extremely bored for a while after that... *sigh*
I think the best ep ever is the season 4 opener 20 Hours in America. I absolutely love it.

Sorkin is a genius! Have you ever seen the movie The American President? I love it and know it by heart! So many great lines. And you can totally find stuff - and actors - from it in TWW! :)

I'm ashamed to say I haven't seen The American President yet. It's totally on my list now, though! I've seen A Few Good Men, and some Sports Night and Studio 60, but it wasn't til my best friends sat me down in front of TWW that I fell at Sorkin's feet. :)

20 Hours In America is absolutely incredible. I could watch it over and over. 4x20: Evidence Of Things Not Seen is another great one.

I was so sad about Mrs. Landingham. :/ I still am. But they almost made up for it with the wicked awesomeness that is Two Cathedrals.

Oh my god! You SO need to watch it!!!!

I'm not at 4.20 but 20 Hours I could watch all day long! :)

They didn't get me back with Two Cathedrals, it almost made me more angry. The only part I did like was Bartlet yelling at God in Latin. But I was still ticked off as heck.
Took a while for me to be interested again...

<333 I have to rewatch this .. and soon! :D
